Comfort Tech History

In 1991 Steve Lauritzen, the founder of Comfort Tech, enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent four years as an ICBM facilities maintenance specialist.  This involved working on power generation/distribution and heating & cooling systems. After the Air Force, Steve moved with his wife Therese to Provo, Utah. He spent the next three and half years finishing college, working as an HVAC service technician, and later as a Comfort Consultant.

As a Comfort Consultant, Steve recognized that different people have different needs and that there is no “one size fits all” solution for people’s comfort. In 1998, Steve started Comfort Tech Custom Heating & Air Conditioning with the mission to custom fit the best indoor conditioning solution to each unique situation. This required an extensive understanding of many different equipment brands and technologies as well as a working knowledge of industry standards for design & installation.

In 2001, after experiencing remarkable growth year over year, Lauritzen moved Comfort Tech out of his home office in Provo to a brand new office/shop complex in Orem, Utah. Until the summer of 2005 Comfort Tech had no long-term vision and though profitable was having a difficult time standing out in the crowded HVAC industry. Through introspection, research, and the invaluable help of others Comfort Tech made the move to focus their efforts on what they did better than anyone else, and in 2005 developed the Engineered Indoor Environment™. This revolutionary product is a customized heating, cooling, & IAQ system produced by strict adherence to a proprietary 10 step process, and results in unparalleled comfort & energy savings.

For two years, Comfort Tech primarily installed their Engineered Indoor Environments™ in new homes and offices. In 2008, the deliberate expansion to include retrofitting Engineered Indoor Environments™ into existing applications began. Along with this shift came an expansion of the service & maintenance department. The department was retooled from the ground up to accomplish Comfort Tech’s mission of making clients completely comfortable and nurturing lasting relationships through exceptional service & integrity.

Recognizing a better option for heating & cooling then was currently being offered, in 2007, Comfort Tech introduced geothermal heat pumps as another possible solution. After extensive training and obtaining several design & installation certifications, Comfort Tech started installing geothermal heat pumps and received rave reviews. In 2009, Comfort Tech formed a strategic alliance with Palace Geothermal. Palace Geothermal provides the ground loop allowing Comfort Tech to focus on the indoor system installation.

Comfort Tech has always utilized innovative systems to customize holistic solutions. Through ongoing training as well as strategic alliances with equipment vendors, energy conservation organizations, and other subcontractors Comfort Tech plans to stay on the cutting edge by continuing to custom design, install, & maintain Engineered Indoor Environments™ that deliver unrivaled comfort & energy savings.
