Comfort Zoning

It has always been difficult, if not impossible, to provide a uniform sensation of comfort throughout your entire home or office. Add some of today’s most desired architectural design features, and the problem gets worse. Large glass expanses, vaulted or cathedral ceilings, theater rooms, solariums, lofts — they all can cause temperatures to vary dramatically from one part of your building to the next. Expecting one thermostat in a single room to control temperature variations throughout is asking the impossible. With a zoning system, you won’t heat empty rooms or over-cool one area in order to be comfortable in another. Zoning makes it possible for everyone to be comfortable.

A zoning system uses dampers in your ductwork or valves on your radiant system that open and close as needed based on each zone's thermostat settings.  When a zone is at the selected temperature, and doesn't need to be heated or cooled, the dampers or valves close to save energy and maximize comfort elsewhere.  Think of it as controlling your heating and cooling the same way you control your lights - a thermostat controls each zone to the temperature you choose.
